Some of you will remember that just before Crimble I set myself a crazy challenge -
To write 100 hooks for one of your books.
The offer was only open to five people.
It was a pilot project. I wanted to know if it was doable. And to see what I'd need to put into place if I expanded the project into something bigger.
I've done
a couple of dry runs now. Gathered a whole bunch of hook formulas and tested how long it would take.
The thing is, I'm not ready to hand over my creativity to ChatGPT.
I'm curious about how hooks work. What makes a good hook? What angle or emotion works best for each book?
These things, this deep learning, can't happen
without doing the work. Without putting the reps in.
Some things you just can't shortcut.
There’s a famous Bruce Lee quote floating around the internet...
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000
kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
So, I'm setting myself a goal of writing one million hooks *does some maffs * errr...maybe not that many.
I'll probably shoot for writing one hundred hooks for 30
books. *Does a bit more maff*...
That's 3,000 hooks.
I may or may not stop there, but it feels achievable without risking my sanity too much - plus I've the kids, they're really good at throwing spanners in the works.
If you have a book you'd like me to write 100 hooks for, here's the
criteria:
1) It has to already be published on Amazon - I need to read the look inside
2) It needs to have at least a handful of reviews.
3) You've got to be happy for me to share the hooks on my website.
All you need to do is reply to this email with the Amazon link. That's it.
I can't say that
all 100 hooks will be usable. In fact, some will absolutely miss the mark. But there will, with any luck, be some absolute belters.
And, if anything, you can tweak them for ad copy, use them as inspiration for other books, or just riff off them for ideas.
One author, not sure she'll want to be named, who took part in the pilot said,
"Holy smoly, Angie, Some of those hooks are real bangers."
So, if you'd like to take part, reply to this email with your book's Amazon link.
If you have a friend with a book (and you like them enough) feel free to forward them this email.
And, if you were part of the test project, feel free to send a link to another book.
Angie
P.s. I'm still just figuring out a few things on the backend, writing the copy for the web page and such, so I haven’t got a start date in mind. In all likelihood, it’ll be early to mid February. I’ll keep you posted.
If you spot any typos or run on sentences or
dangling thingamies, please be kind and let it slide. Save your energy for something better.
