Strap in. I’ve got my ranty pants on.
Now, I’m on quite a few email lists.
I’m into email marketing, so that kinda makes sense, right?
I like to see what other people are up to with their emails. Their strategy. Their hooks. Their big ideas. Their whole sales funnels.
But, I’ve noticed a trend recently that really doesn’t sit well with me.
I’m on the list of a pretty big name in the author coaching space, a well-respected copywriter, and another guy who I actually just unsubscribed from because he’s been a big culprit of this…
They are all recycling their emails from a previous launch to
promote their courses.
I’m not talking about automations — you know the ones that get sent automagically when someone signs up to your list, or clicks a certain link etc.
I’m talking about sending their list the
exact same emails they sent the first time they promoted their course.
And now they’re reopening the doors for their courses and just sending the same dang emails. Same body copy. Same subject lines. Everything.
Now this is
fine if you’ve only just joined the list and it’s the first time you’ve read those emails...
But what if you weren’t ready to buy whatever it is they were selling the first time around?
Perhaps now, you are in a position to
buy…
...but you’ve read those emails before…and the sales effect has worn off because there’s no dopamine hit from the novelty of reading something fresh, new, and engaging.
My reaction has been to bounce. I just delete the
email. It’s like, “I’ve seen this before. So what?”
As I say, if it’s the first time someone on your list is reading, fine…
But, for forks sake, RESPECT your list.
RESPECT THEIR
TIME.
RESPECT THEIR ATTENTION.
If you’re recycling emails, it tells me you care more about YOUR time and your bottom line than you do me—the reader.
Yes, coming up with fresh stuff
can feel like hard work.
But so is constantly having to attract new readers because you can’t keep them engaged.
It’s no way to turn people into loyal fans.
I would never re-send my emails to you, .
I respect and appreciate you too much.
