In 2001, they changed the name to PayPal.
You’ve heard of them, right?
They changed their name to better reflect the benefit of what they offer—making online
payments faster—and to be more memorable.
It worked.
There are loads of examples of brands changing their name…Even Google wasn't always called Google.
In 1996 they were called...
BackRub.
(Seriously. You can BackRub Google it.)
Airbnb was originally
called…
Air Bed and Breakfast.
They changed the name in 2009 to make it easier for people to say and remember.
Levi's was originally called Levi Strauss & Co. They shortened it
in 1971 to make it easier to say and…yup, you guessed it…remember.
Pinterest - originally called Pinboard, changed for similar reasons in 2010.
Back in 1966, a little company called Master Charge was formed. In 1979, they changed it. You might have heard of them… MasterCard. They
change it to make it more recognisable and memorable.
And in November 2023, my little website will change from More Than Blurbs to...

Ok, it’s not shorter, but it does reflect the service I offer.
Being known as ‘The Book Funnel Lady,’ helps to make me more memorable.
Like, The Batman.
Or The crazy cat lady.
Or The 100 hundred headlines guy.
Or The guy I always try to avoid on the school
run.
People are busy. In a sea of names among names, being a ‘The’ gives them a mental image, an anchor, so that when they come to recall me, or tell someone about me, they have a hook to mentally hang me on.
Being memorable is half the battle in marketing.
